NAS Casalingo ossia "fatto in casa"

Dear friends, today I describe

una delle mie recenti attività che mi ha gratificato estremamente.

Avevo la necessità di sostituire il mio vecchio NAS da 250 GB con ethernet 10/100 avendo migrato la rete a gigabit Ethernet ed avendo necessità di fare backup dei vari pc e di utilizzare tale nas come repository per le macchine virtuali.
Disponendo di una motherboard Asus form-factor mini-atx dotata di processore
dual core Intel Atom 330 a 1.6 Ghz ho pensato di riutilizzarla profiquamente per assemblare un NAS
risparmiando notevolmente sulle equivalenti soluzioni in produzione.

Ho quindi assemblato un Nas (Network attached storage) dotato di due Hard-Disk
utilizzato in configurazione Raid 1 software. Il processore e' sufficentemente potente to handle everything with great performance.

in Raid 1 configuration and 'was dictated by the following reasons:

- economic
- redundancy and data security
- possibility of re-HD quickly removed (in case of emergency) being treated as normal HD with standard file system (ext2 ext3 or ext4)

Regarding the choice of Western Digital disks series GP, it is' linked to the need for extreme low noise and low energy consumption and heat dissipation. These discs

although less accurate than the standard disc is perfectly at home in a NAS configuration, providing a higher sustained transfer rate of Gigabit Ethernet in a configuration.
E 'should be noted that the above mentioned discs are recommended for HD in comparison with 2.5-inch 7200-rpm both from the point of view of the dissipation of heat generated from the point of view of performance.

On Nas I tried 3 versions of open source sw:
- FreeNAS
- Openfiler
- Ubuntu Server

The first and 'the most' simple and rewarding dal punto di vista della cura grafica, della semplicità di installazione e gestione.

Il secondo e il terzo sono i piu' prestanti dal punto di vista delle prestazioni ma Openfiler gestisce I dischi con la logica degli LVM (logical voloume manager) che seppur un sistema elastico, nel caso di utilizzo con dischi multipli e di differente geometria non consente la possibilità di riutilizzo, nel caso l'HD venga rimosso dal NAS per un utilizzo esterno.

La terza soluzione seppur meno improntata all'uso del NAS consente prestazioni eccellenti con elevato grado di espandibilità (dal punto di vista sw).

Posso solo dirvi che la soluzione 2 e 3 consentono praticamente trsaferimenti quickly. I have not worked
